Thank you for taking the time to submit your tattoo enquiry and read the information here.

I believe the creation of a tattoo starts with a good relationship between the client and the artist - one that’s founded on mutual trust and understanding of each other’s wants and needs - so I hope by reading this you are able to gain a good understanding of who I am and how I approach my tattooing. I’m looking forward to also getting to know you, and helping to bring your tattoo visions to life.

My aim is to produce the best tattoos that I possibly can. I’m not here to simply fill my books, rather,  I’m here to take on incredible tattoo projects that I feel I can best commit my talent and passion towards.

As my years of tattooing grows and so too does my client list, unfortunately I’m unable to accommodate everyone’s tattoo requests. For this reason, please understand that I only select pieces that I believe will best complement my style and creative direction.

I’m really looking forward to hearing your idea once you’ve read through this brochure. If we are both on the same page, and both remain committed to the entire process and resources involved in producing awe-inspiring tattoos, then we are in for some happy days.

Best,
Jeremy

THE PRODUCT

Jeremy works in three styles of tattoos only:

Freehand ◆ Black and Grey Photo Realism ◆ Colour Photo Realism

Each style has its own set of rules that must be followed to ensure a polished, high-quality end product. It’s therefore important that you’re aware of how your selected style works, as detailed in the next section of this brochure. Jeremy aims to produce work that is original and unique, and as such enjoys taking on clients seeking one-off, impactful pieces of art gracing their skin.  He takes pride in his work by producing every tattoo to an exceptional standard, allowing for optimal healing so his clients can remain impressed with their tattoos for years to come.

Selecting your tattoo style will depend on your preferences regarding originality, detail, time/budget and skin coverage. For example, if you are considering realism but would also like the most coverage in the fastest amount of time, then Jeremy may not be the artist for you - as you’ll read further on, time and patience is required to execute his realism product. You may like to consider freehand instead, which is a much quicker style.

Please be aware that good work does take time, and if you are booking a highly detailed piece in particular, it is expected that you remain flexible with your expectations regarding time and budget due to the number of variables that can affect the tattooing process (more on that further on). As is with any creative process, if an artist is rushed this can compromise the detail of their work and mean the end result isn’t able to reach its full potential - a real shame!

Let’s dive into the styles that Jeremy works in so you can determine which best suits your vision.

THE PROCESS

FREEHAND

“I love the workflow this style creates, and the process is simple and efficient. I simply get the markers out, map out the rough idea of the tattoo, turn the machine on and we go!”

As it sounds, Freehand designs are drawn directly to the skin. No reference images or stencils are required.

It’s For You If:

You want a large area of skin covered fast. Jeremy can move very quickly with Freehand (in the past he has completed a full chest piece in 14 hours, and the outside of a sleeve in 20 hours).

Freehand is great for filling awkward gaps, creating movement on the body and covering large areas of the body in a short period of time. For this reason, it’s a good option for those on a tight budget.

It May Not Be For You If:

You would like a very specific image or subject matter. Freehand is quite limited in its range of subject matter. Due to its fluid nature the images need to be organic - faces, monsters, skulls, tentacles, teeth and eyes. Have a look at Jeremy’s portfolio to get an idea.

BLACK & GREY PHOTO REALISM

“This is the style I’m proud to be known for. You can trust me - I’ve got this!”

Realism is a slower process than Freehand. For Jeremy to create the detailed Black and Grey Realism pieces he is known for, he needs time to execute the high quality of these pieces.

If you would like a sleeve in this style for example, expect to require at least 5-7 sessions, depending on the detail you would like achieved and size of your body. As a rough guide, a Black and Grey Realism portrait usually takes Jeremy 6 hours, and a rose takes approximately 3 hours.

As the name of the style suggests, the design must be based on photo references. The better the references, the better the tattoo. Jeremy is able to design truly original designs with Photoshop, using techniques such as morphing images together and changing the aspects of a photo.

Upon arriving at a realism tattoo session with Jeremy, you can expect that the first portion of your session will be used to finalise your design, size up your stencil and ensure that both yourself and Jeremy are content with the design before commencing tattooing it onto your skin. This work takes time and involves collaboration between artist and client, and is absolutely vital to ensure you both gain a great tattoo result.

It is highly recommended that you read the advice Jeremy has written on his blog pertaining to realism tattooing.

It’s For You If:

You are after tattoos that are highly-detailed and life-like, and you are willing to put your trust in Jeremy to do what he does best. You are committed to booking multiple sessions if required in order to achieve this result.

This style is great for you if you would like a portrait of a loved one, someone you admire (or a face you simply like the look of), or would like an animal tattoo. If you’re not quite game enough to make the leap to colour tattoos, or if you have existing work that is black and grey, stick to Black and Grey Realism for this tattoo.

Because of the potential factors that may unforeseeably extend the amount of time required for your tattoo on the day, such as necessary design amendments and managing how your skin and nervous system respond to the tattooing process,  you understand and appreciate that you should have a degree of flexibility with the time and budget you allow for your realism tattoo/s.

It May Not Be For You If:

You would like maximum coverage in minimal time (in which case, consider Freehand). If you’re limited on budget and don’t have much room to move in this area, but would still like a highly-detailed, quality piece of work, we highly recommend holding off on getting your tattoo until you save what you need - never skimp on quality when it comes to your tattoos.

COLOUR REALISM

“This is a serious style. It’s slow and precise – and when done well, looks epic. I can create highly detailed tattoos in colour realism that completely reflect the photo reference.”

Most of the information regarding black and grey realism above also applies to colour realism, apart from the time that it takes. The style is slower than black and grey realism because all the colours need to be packed in, and the additional work Jeremy must do in order to prepare for your piece.

Once Jeremy has finalised the design, he will need to spend time conducting a colour study in order to select the correct colour palette for the tattoo. Expect the preparation for your colour realism tattoo to encompass the first 1-2 hours minimum of your initial session.

A standard colour realism portrait needs approximately 9 hours+ to complete (depending on the design’s detail and size). For this reason, clients wishing to book colour realism sessions are given the choice of booking one extra long day (8-9 hours), or breaking it up over two back-to-back days (5-6 hours each). We highly recommend opting for the 2-day option, as it ensures Jeremy has time to do the piece complete justice, and also ensures he remains fresh towards the end of the piece.

If you’re worried about long sessions, you can be assured that realism is a soft style of tattooing and most people don’t have issues sitting through back-to-back sessions. Jeremy also uses numbing agents in his tattoo process to settle the skin throughout the tattoo, and to ensure his clients can remain relaxed as the session progresses.

It’s For You If:

You want a detailed, life-like piece that makes people go “wow”. You are committed to booking multiple sessions if required in order to achieve this result. This style is great for you if you would like a portrait of a loved one, someone you admire (or a face you simply like the look of) or would like an animal tattoo. If you want to make a statement with colour, or have existing tattoos that are in colour, stick to colour for this tattoo.

Because of the potential factors that may unforeseeably extend the amount of time required for your tattoo on the day, such as necessary design amendments and managing how your skin and nervous system respond to the tattooing process,  you understand and appreciate that you should have a degree of flexibility with the time and budget you allow for your realism tattoo/s

It May Not Be For You If:

You would like maximum coverage in minimal time (in which case, consider Freehand - please note Freehand can’t be done in colour).

Would like a cartoon or animated image tattooed. Realism designs can only be based on photographs (read Jeremy’s blog for more information on this).

If you’re limited on budget and don’t have much room to move in this area, but would still like a highly-detailed, quality piece of work, we highly recommend holding off on getting your tattoo until you save what you need - never skimp on quality when it comes to your tattoos.

COVER-UPS

Jeremy is happy to consider cover-ups. His ability to do so will depend on the design and depth of your existing tattoo that needs to be covered, and what you would like covering it.

Please provide images of your existing tattoo and reference images of what you would like covering it in  order for Jeremy to determine if this will be possible.

THE PRICING

The cost of your tattoo will depend on the time it takes to produce. This comes down to the tattoo’s style, design and size, and factors that occur during your session.

During your session, Jeremy may face factors that vary the time required to complete your tattoo, and for this reason the cost of tattoos (particularly large-scale) can never be precisely quoted.

Factors that influence the time taken on your tattoo include the condition of your skin, how well you sit, the detail of your design and the initial preparation required in order to finalise and stencil your design.

Please note that your session begins from the moment you arrive. Upon arrival at your first session, you and Jeremy will create your design and ensure it fits your body, working collaboratively in order to achieve the best tattoo possible. If producing a colour tattoo, this will also involve Jeremy conducting a colour study and selecting a colour palette appropriate to the design and your skin tone. This design and preparation work is part of your session and therefore you are charged for this time.

In the days prior to your session, Jeremy conducts his own reference image research and usually spends money downloading high-resolution images. This planning time and associated image purchases are at no cost to you.

As you can appreciate, if you advise Jeremy you have changed your mind on your design upon arriving at your session, Jeremy will require much longer to re-plan your piece and prepare the design. This will take up a considerable amount of your session and you will still be expected to pay for this time.

For this reason, we recommend that if you do change your mind you inform us at least 3 days prior to your session to avoid you spending more money than you need to on your tattoo booking.

Jeremy operates with a minimum rate of $1500 per tattoo.

6 hours (standard day) - $1800

Longer sessions - $300 ph thereafter

Longer days are recommended for colour realism if not doing multiple sessions.

Most of Jeremy’s tattoos take at least 6 hours to tattoo. Due to the high costs and risks associated with travelling, national and international guest spot bookings (including the Gold Coast) have a minimum charge of $1800.

Shorter or longer sessions are charged accordingly. If you decide you would like a longer session, you will be charged for each extra hour in the chair.

Each session will include a short lunch break.

All bookings require a $500 deposit in order to be secured in Jeremy’s diary. This deposit is non-refundable (consideration will only be given in exceptional circumstances).

BOOKING INFORMATION

If you’re keen to make a booking with me, let’s get this rolling! Please read the following information to ensure your booking is seamless.

There are two non-negotiable things I need from you to determine if and how your idea will translate onto your skin.

jeremy-furniss-take-photo.png

1.

A Clear straight on photo of the area you wish to have tattooed

This is easier if you can have a friend take the photo for you, otherwise see how you go using your camera’s timer or a mirror. I need a direct straight on closeup image, like the example below. This will help me see what I have to work with and give me an image I can use if I need to mock anything up.

jeremy-furniss-take-reference.png

2.

Reference images

If you’re booking a realism piece, send me any usable reference material. This may be anything from other tattoos you like or photo references.

Please be aware that I am unable to create a photo-realism tattoo from a drawing. For more details on finding usable reference images check out my blog.

If you’re booking freehand, send through some photos of the freehand work that you like. That way I can determine the subject matter and direction that you’re envisioning for your tattoo.

Thank you for taking the time to read this information.

If you are eager to proceed with your tattoo booking please let us know by email so we can begin arranging this for you and discussing your design. If you have any further questions about the information contained in this brochure, please don’t hesitate to reach out and we will gladly assist you.

“I can’t express this enough: tattooing - creating amazing bodies of work - takes dedication and undying enthusiasm from both parties involved. Creating amazing work that also heals just as well will take commitment and patience from both of us. I hope that we share the same values and expectations of the project ahead and that we can work together to create something unique and exceptional - something that will look incredible for many years to come.”
